Love is sweet

I LOVE these snacks/candy tables that some people choose to have at their reception, and I’m currently shopping for cute jars and stuff so I can make one for our wedding party next month. I’m thinking I could fill them with pink and white candy, like marengs, marshmallows, bonbons, lollipops, and swedish “bilar”! It’s gonna be soooo sweet ;D

YUM!

I heart Ikea

I’m sooooo tired right now, cause my mom and I just spent the last five hours at Ikea getting stuff for our wedding celebration in June. But it was well worth it! We got 25 blankets, eating utensils (knives, forks, spoons and teaspoons, a hundred of each), cake stands, 10 salad bowls, 8 dressing bowls, 5 salad utensils, 2 candy jars, a bunch of tea candles, fabric to make cloth napkins out of, and I even got some stuff for the apartment, like a shower mat, flowers, little bath cloths, wrapping paper, and a couple of foldable garden chairs. And it hardly cost me anything! Even my mom got a few things for herself, and I still only paid 3700 NOK! I’m still in shock..

Thumbs up for THAT!

Pop it!

I’ve decided that I reaaaally want to have a popcorn machine at our wedding party this summer! That old school, carnival type of machine. I’m thinking about getting a cotton candy one too.

Cute, right? I’ve reached out to a couple of vendors who rent them out to check the prices. I mean, who doesn’t love popcorn and cotton candy?

Featured on Pretty Chic wedding blog!

My friend Anne-Margrethe, who took the amazing pictures at our wedding, told me today that the wedding had been featured on prettychicblog.dk! They had sent me an e-mail asking if I could write a little something about how we planned a wedding in Miami from so far away, and where my dress and Endre’s attire was from. They even have some new pictures in there, that even I hadn’t seen before!

RSVP

So I sent out the invitations for our wedding celebration a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday, we got our first rsvp card in the mail! I loved our invitations, they were so beautiful, I kinda wish we’d ordered one for ourselves as well..!

I put little hearts in some of the invitations, because only some of them were supposed to say “bring your children”, but they all said that, and not all our guests have children..!

The night shifts have screwed up my sleeping habits a little bit, so I woke up at 5 am today.. So I watched a few episodes of “Modern Family”, before making breakfast for me and my hubby. Now I’m gonna do some vacuuming and other boring things  around the apartment.

Have a good friday!

Hair and make-up

It was actually my bridesmaid, and one of my best friends, who did my hair and make-up on my wedding day. She is a professional hair dresser and make-up artist, and I’m so glad she agreed to help me, even though I know she was really nervous about it. It’s good to get help from someone who knows you and really cares about you, because it’s important to them to make it the best day of your life, so you know they’ll give it their best. And Marhu certainly did. She’s always a perfectionist, but I know she really put her heart into making everything as perfect as possible for my special day.

For the first-look and the photo shoot on the beach, she curled my hair, and pinned one side up with a crystal hair comb. I wanted it to be laid back and casual, but pretty. So we went for a long, wavy, beachy look.

Then before the ceremony, she gave me a half updo, with the headband my mom had given me, to make a little more formal and elegant.

We had tried out both hair-do’s and make-up before the big day off course, but she pretty much nailed what I wanted right away. That’s one of the benefits of working with someone who knows you ♥

In addition to working freelance, Marhu currently works at Studio M in Sandvika, and Model Day Studio in Oslo. If you want to look your best on your wedding day, you should get Marhu to do your hair and make-up!

Wedding invitations are here!

Yay! I went to the post office and picked up the invites today! (Had to wait half an hour for the clerk to find the package though!). I was happily surprised when I opened the box, cause they are even prettier then I had suspected. They are perfect! I am soooooo happy with them, can’t wait to send them out.

I can definitely recommend the company that I ordered these from, www.bryllupsbutikken.no. They have been so quick to respond to e-mails, very nice on the phone, and just in general helpful, service minded and fast. Not to mention they deliver amazing results! So if you live in Norway and are looking for wedding invitations, check them out!

Friends and family, you are in for a pretty treat in the mail ;)

Saying yes to the dress!

I knew I wanted to find my dress in Florida, mostly because of the prices, but also because the selection is better, and since we were gonna get married there I wouldn’t have to drag it all the way from Norway.

So when Endre and I were there during the summer last year to look at locations, I took a few trips to bridal stores to try on dresses. No, Endre didn’t come with me, I went with my mom’s cousin.

So first we went to David’s Bridal, and Alfred Angelo. I tried on many pretty dresses, and there was a couple that I really considered. Like these:

But even though I thought they were really pretty, none of them gave me that “this is the one” feeling. So I decided to keep looking. But just a couple of days before we were headed back home, we had just found our wedding location, when one of the ladies who worked there asked me if I had been to Miracle Mile in Coral Gables yet. I hadn’t even heard of it before, but she told me that there was an entire street of bridal stores. It was about 3 pm already, and she said that they closed at 6. We didn’t have any specific plans for the rest of the day, so we just thought, what the hell, let’s check it out. So we got in a cab an went straight there. The first bridal store we got to was called Alegria’s Brides. I went in and tried on a few dresses, while Endre waited outside, and there was two dresses that I fell in love with. But this was just the first store I’d been in, so I thought that I couldn’t buy a dress without having looked in any of the other stores. So we went to a few more, and I tried on loads of dresses. I even went back to a David’s Bridal and tried the Vera Wang dress one more time, but the dresses at the first store kept coming to mind. So at 6 pm I ran back to the first store. And even though they had just closed, they opened the doors for me and let me try the dresses on one more time. I was kinda torn between the two, but when the lady helping me dimmed the lights in the fitting room, there was no doubt in my mind, I had found the dress!

So I paid for it, and had them measure me so they could order the dress in my size. Then in November I went back with my mom to have my first fitting, and as it turns out, I had lost a little weight..!

But the seamtress worked her magic, and just a few days later I had my second fitting, and it fit perfectly!

I left the dress in the store, so I could just pick it up there before the wedding in february, and luckily, I didn’t loose or gain any weight in the meantime.

It was difficult to make such a big decision without asking Endre for his opinion, but he loved the dress! It was perfect for our wedding day, because I was able to dance around, walk in the sand, and it wasn’t heavy or sliding down. It stayed in place the entire day. The dress is Private Label By G STYLE 1431.

The best thing is, I get to wear it again! We are having a party here in Norway, to celebrate, and we’re gonna recreate as much as possible from the wedding so that those who couldn’t come to Miami get a taste of what it was like. Hopefully it’ll still be intact after having been to the cleaners..

My wedding shoes

I never thought that finding the perfect wedding shoes would be so incredibly difficult, but it took me forever..! “Traditional” wedding shoes are just so ugly, that I knew I had to look elsewhere. So I started looking online and in shops here in Norway some time before november. But I didn’t stress it because I knew I was going to Florida for a week in November, so I figured I’d find some shoes there. But boy, was I wrong..! I went to so many malls, department stores, shoe stores and even bridal stores, and found nada! So when I got back home I continued looking online and in stores, but in the stores I could only find winter shoes, or really sparkly “new years eve” type of shoes. And online they either didn’t have my size, didn’t ship to Norway, or the shipping cost as much as the shoe itself..! So I gave up, and figured I’d give it one more chance in Miami when we went there for the wedding. We had 5 days before the wedding day, and a long list of things to take care of, and everywhere we went I stopped to look for shoes. We went to Coral Gables, Sawgrass Mills, Lincoln Road, Miracle Mile, Coconut Grove, and I STILL couldn’t find anything. I was really starting to stress out, cause time was running out. Then, two days before the wedding, we were on our way back to the hotel to call it a night at around 10 pm, when I noticed that some random shoe store on the corner was still open, so I told Endre I was just gonna take a quick look. From the window display it didn’t seem like I would find anything there,  but it couldn’t hurt to just take a look. AND THERE THEY WERE! I couldn’t believe it, after all these months of searching and searching, driving around and going to places far away, I found them at the shoe store closest to the hotel we were staying at..! I was so happy and relieved, and the shoes were perfect! I ended up with a pale pink high heel sandal from Badgley Mischka. I think this particular model is called “Xavier”. And what’s even more funny, is that when I came home and had a look at my little inspiration book, there was actually a picture of the exact same shoe in a champagne color..! But I’m happy I found them in pink, cause they are so much cuter!
