Paris, day 1 and 2

Day 1:

We have a tradition whenever we’re at Gardermoen airport traveling international together, we always go to Pizza Hut! We don’t care about what we eat when we’re on vacation, so we kicked off our trip with some pepperoni pizza:

We arrived in Paris really late, so all we had time to do the first day was get on the train and check in to our hotel. We found out that the hotel was just outside of Paris, a place called Fontenay, but it didn’t take long to get there, so it wasn’t a big deal. However, when we got there we were starving, but everything was closed! So, we went straight to sleep.

Day 2:

First thing we did was get us some coffee at Starbucks! We love that place, but we don’t have it here in Norway (except for the one that just opened at the airport), so whenever we go to a country with Starbucks, we get the usual. Mine is “tall iced caramel macchiato”, and Endre’s is “tall iced mocha”. Except for when it’s cold outside, then we get them warm.

Before our trip we had asked around about what we should do and where we should go, since neither of us had ever been there before, and a friend of Endre suggested we go to Pompidou first thing. It’s a modern art museum, and you can take some escalators to the top of the building where you get a great view of the city. It kinda gives you a sense of where things are. We could see both the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Cour from there.

After strolling around St.Germain, Marias and Rue Rivoli, looking around, and managing a little bit of shopping, we got hungry, and decided to just sit down at the first french-looking restaurant we found to try some real french food. We ended up having escargot (she told us it was frog legs, but isn’t escargot really snails..??) as appetizer..! None of us had ever tried it before, and to be honest, it mainly tasted like garlic, and the texture was chewy. It was okay, we at it, but I don’t think we’ll be having it again. And then Endre had a foie gras burger, and I had duck (don’t remember the name of it though, but the waitress assured me it was very french).

After eating we walked around some more, locating Notre-Dame, “the love bridge” and The Louvre. We didn’t go inside though, we were saving that for later, but we just stopped outside to have a look.

When we got back to the hotel, our feet were sooo sore and tired from all the walking, but it was still a great day! So much beauty in Paris, and we constantly had to stop and take pictures of the buildings we passed. Most of the time we had no idea what it even was, it was just so beautiful and amazing that we had to take pictures of it.

Still to come: Eiffel Tower, Sacre Cour and Moulin Rouge!
